The onset of technology means that politics is more accessible to the people than ever before. In an instant, a politician can tweet a message on Twitter, post a blog on their website, an article on Facebook, publish a picture on Flickr or Pinterest and post their achievements on LinkedIn. The public thus have direct access to their politicians and without even leaving their homes, can talk to them and appeal for their help.
In East Belfast, our commitment to a total social media network, saw us launch our Skype Surgeries in 2011. Since that time, we have been able to speak to people throughout Northern Ireland; from a constituent in East Belfast to a party colleague in Coleraine.
For those unfamiliar with it, Skype is a service that allows people to communicate with friends via voice, video, and instant messaging over the Internet. This can utilise webcams and microphones so you can actually see someone anywhere in the world!
So if for whatever reason, you are unable to come to our Advice Centre at 174 Albertbridge Road and would instead like to meet with Michael face-to-face, you can come online with Skype and set up a conference call – the ID to add to your friend’s list is michaelcopelandmla. If you would like to arrange a particular time, please contact Michael on 02890 521291.
No Politics, Just People.
